About the Author

W. Somerset Maugham (1874–1965) was a British playwright, novelist, and short story writer. One of the most popular writers of the early 20th century, Maugham's works were known for their keen understanding of human psychology and their often cynical view of society. He spent a significant portion of his life traveling, and many of his stories reflect his experiences in the Far East, Europe, and the United States. Some of his best-known works include Of Human Bondage, The Razor’s Edge, and The Moon and Sixpence.
